Top of the World

IMG_4383

Well, ok, more like top of Ireland! More holiday photos from the North Antrim and North Donegal coastline… The jacket is red wool boucle fabric with a matching silk scarf, but more of a car coat really.

IMG_4357

This is Malin Head at the top of the Inishowen peninsula, you can just about see in the background ’80 Eire’, this was used during World War 2 as a navigation aid for pilots, so they would know they were flying over neutral Ireland. Each site was numbered from 1 to 83, there are remains all along the west coast, and some have been restored like this one on Malin Head.

And here we are at the famous Carrick a Rede rope bridge, Game of Thrones fans will recognise this!! It was truly scary to cross, it moves. A LOT.

IMG_4399

More amazing things to see in Glenveagh National Park too, but we just missed Prince Charles visit!! Pity…

IMG_4659

I’m skipping ahead a bit here but I love this Poulnabrone Dolmen in the Burren in County Clare. It dates back to the Neolithic Period between 4200bc-2900BC. Wow.

More to follow!

Beach Babe

IMG_4473

I’m just back from a road trip, a Wild Atlantic Way road trip! Wow, what an amazing holiday. We were lucky with the weather and so I got to photograph lots of my new collection in fabulous locations. First up is this beach playsuit made in vintage cream floral cotton, I think it’s actually a 1970s fabric but it looks great made up in this 1950s style swimwear.

The location is the beautiful Fintra Beach in Donegal, close to Donegal town. It is stunning.

I’ve also just added it to my Etsy shop, you can see more here!

Country Girl

IMG_4155

A more casual look this week- it’s jeans and a shirt for a day in the country. I was quite inspired by old photographs of Elizabeth Taylor early in her career- high waisted jeans, sleeveless shirt and a scarf in her hair.

IMG_4150

I found these tiny rivets for dolls jeans and I just had to try them! I love 3/4 length jeans too – really 1950s, so chic.

IMG_4221

The high heels may not be the most practical for a day in the country but they look great, my mantra is never sacrifice style for comfort!

Ladies Who Lunch

IMG_3878

A lunch invitation at the Big House, what to wear? Well, I thought a white strapless full skirted dress with a marching bolero style jacket would be perfect. I finished it off with a white plaited leather belt, to cinch in the waist. This is a really fine, light vintage cotton worn with a frilly crinoline to make the skirt extra full.

IMG_3877

Next frock is a  a rose pink vintage silk dress with ribbon detailing, the skirt is a full gathered skirt, it makes the waist look tiny!

I think the ladies are well dressed for the occasion. The location was Belvedere House in Mullingar, another fantastic old house worth a visit.

Time for aperitifs….

High Crosses and High Fashion

IMG_3733

Monasterboice in Co. Louth is famous for it’s High Crosses especially Muiredach’s High Cross. It is from the 10th or possibly 9th Century and really quite beautiful, and regarded as the finest High Cross in Ireland. The ruins are of an early Christian settlement.

IMG_3731

In fact there are three High Crosses at Monasterboice, here is another one in the background.

IMG_3687

It was back to Mellifont Abbey for these sunny photos. The 50s wriggle dress is light pink silk with ruffle neckline trim and bow. The swing coat is a fabulous pink and orange tweed, with bias cut pockets. A little pillbox hat finishes the look.

A fresh spring day brought us to Moone, and beyond. I’ve been busy making my Spring Summer Collection, this is a pale green raw silk dress with waist detail and matching hat.

IMG_3571

Here’s  a detail from the High Cross.. it’s a fantastic piece of work.

Then onto some excellent ruins….

IMG_3579

On the way back we called into Abbeyleix for a lemonade…

Day at the Museum

IMG_3477

My favourite place in Dublin is the Natural History Museum, so no better place to visit on a rainy afternoon. It’s such a pity the upper floors are closed, but there is still LOTS to see!

IMG_3475

The outfit for the visit is a cream and dark gold silk matching dress and coat, 1960s style, with matching hat, of course. The coat is a collarless swing style in cream silk with dark gold silk lining.

IMG_3527

The shift dress is matching cream silk with contrasting dark gold patch pockets and contrast stitch detailing on the bodice.

IMG_3521

The hat is dark gold silk with cord bow.

IMG_3507

I really love matching coats and dresses!
