Ruby Red Dress

More holiday photos! This time it was a trip to the Botanic Gardens in Augsburg, look at those lush colours, don t they make the ruby red dress pop?

I knew this red silk would look fantastic against the lovely tropical foliage. I have no idea what those red plants are in the background but they matched the colour of the dress perfectly!

One of my favourite vintage looks is a 1950s wiggle dress, so elegant and chic. This dress is fitted with darts and kimono sleeves,  bracelet length for the proper 1950s look.  A band and bow under the bust give it the right detailing for a vintage touch.

Such a beautiful location, these were taken in the Japanese gardens, it was so tranquil. This makes me want to book another holiday……

This dress is featured in my boutique, you can view it here.

Ok, time to get back to my sewing,

till next time,

Bavarian Barbie

Snowcapped mountains, lush pasture, turquoise lakes, oh my! I have just got to share some more photos of Barbie in her couture dirndl. Look at this perfect location: Neuschwanstein Castle in the heart of Bavaria.

It was such a beautiful day and the castle looked so magnificent in the sunshine. The interior is very ornate, and finished with exquisite detailing but surprisingly also quite small and compact.  Although the exterior was used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang they used another castle for the interior shots.

The Dirndl is made from vintage silk, a fitted bodice with pewter buttons on the front, and a white cotton frilled undershirt, topped with tiny bows. The skirt is a full gathered skirt with a pink silk apron and the bow tied to the right, apparently this signifies she is single!

Phew. What a view. Time for some apple strudel I think.

Till next time,

Wow! We had a crazy few days here in Ireland last week! The ‘Beast from the East ‘arrived and it brought with it snow, snow and more snow. So, we took advantage of the conditions, grabbed the vintage skis and ski gear and off we went.

We even had time between the snow storms to build a snowman, but he didn’t last for long, soon the snow had covered him!

It was snowing quite heavily again so we took a few photos before the blizzard really took hold.

As you can see the snow was knee high at this point, and it was getting higher.

But now for a closer look at the Barbie vintage skiwear….

I love this baby blue vintage wool ski suit with fur trim and embroidery details, so cosy!

I think this 1960s ski wear is very James Bond, no?

Vintage wool dark green houndstooth with a bias cut bib front, with black ski pants. Chic and warm.

Last pic of the day before the snow got too heavy, Barbie Snow Angel!

Till next time!

A Day Trip to the Mountains

Bavaria is filled with the most beautiful landscapes dotted with fairytale castles. The most famous of them all must be Neuschwanstein Castle, some may know it better as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle! I visited this amazing spot last year and of course I made a special wardrobe for Barbie for the occasion.

Such fabulous scenery!

I love the freshness of gingham, it always looks crisp and cool. This dress has a large white cotton collar and bib detail for a little bit of contrast. I added a belt and to highlight the waist of the full circle skirt….very 1950s summer frock.

Back to my sewing machine now, I have another trip planned…..

Beautiful Venice. We had a few days here in September: gorgeous sunny, warm days. So taking advantage of the fabulous weather and fantastic backdrops we wandered around taking in the sights and soaking up the atmosphere!

Of course I had to make a proper tourist outfit for all that sightseeing: orange gingham peddle pushers with a white broderie anglaise short blouse and finished off with a blue chiffon headscarf.

The Grand Canal, isn’t it amazing? We had just stopped by the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, it is based in her villa on the Grand Canal….wow, fabulous building, location and amazing art collection too. The gift shop is almost as good as the museum.

After a lot of sightseeing we stopped for a rest on the steps of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute…… they have a collection of several pieces by Titian here. There is fabulous art everywhere you go in Venice.

The afternoon was for eating gelato (absolutely divine) and wandering around the back alleys and narrow streets…before hoping on the night train to Vienna! Join me next time for my Viennese adventure!
